You need to have passion for whatever you decide to do. Don't hurry the process, you are still young and haven't been introduced to all of the possibilities in life. Keep looking. One of these days you know when you find it because you will feel it in your belly and you'll know that is what you want to do. Until then keep taking a broad range of courses, and stay interested in lots of things. Keep studying hard and getting good grades and believe me it will come to you soon. Good luck.
The buisness of entertainment can be fun and with the right one can pay well. Start by being in local plays
With all of that knowledge why in the world would you want to settle and go beg for a job from someone? You must have talent, intelligence and a skill set to complete that kind of schooling. Look at owning your own business and controlling your own destiny. If you do get a job use that to spring board you into something bigger and better for yourself. Good Luck!!
Big cities in Russia (such as Moscow) are not like the rest of the country in terms of entertainment. Entertainment in Moscow is like entertainment in Western Europe (think France, Italy, UK) Russian rural areas are more like Eastern Europe (think Hungary, Czech Republic) The same is true about Arts that are mostly European in nature, except folk arts that have been influenced by both Europe and Asia. Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan are another story. The cultures of these countries were heavily influenced by Middle Eastern countries (particularly Azerbaijan with majority of its population being Muslim)
You definitely need a Bachelor's degree to get into the game industry, but what degree is best depends on what area of development you want to get into. There are four basic areas of the development team: design, programming, art, and level building, which are supported by production, Quality Assurance, customer service, sound design, marketing, business development, etc. Designers write up the details of every tiny aspect of the game and come up with the math to support it. Programmers take the written details from the designers and implement it using programming languages like C++ and/or in-house tools. Artists create the 3D art, animations, textures, etc for everything in the game. And level builders take assets created by the artists and create the physical layout of the world. For programming, get a degree in Computer Science. For art, get a Bachelor's of Fine Arts at a school that offers classes in 3D/computer art and animation. Level designers can go a similar route. For game design, it doesn't matter what you get your degree in. A BA in Interactive Arts and Entertainment is as good as a degree in English Literature, or Psychology, or Theatre, etc. So you should definitely not pay more to go to a school that offers a BA in Interactive Arts and Entertainment, but if the school you like offers that major and you enjoy it, then it is just as good as any other major when it comes to game design. Whatever area of development you decide on, if at all possible go to school near city with a lot of game studios, like Los Angeles, San Francisco, Austin, Seattle, etc. Most game companies will not pay for relocation for an entry level job, and some won't even interview you if you don't live in the area, so it'll be a lot easier to find a job after college if you already live near several studios. There's a map here: http://gamedevmap.com/ that lists every game studio by city. Try to find a college in a city with at least 10 game companies.
It depends on which style/format you're using - generally, you would put quotes around the name/headline of an article when referencing it. Newspaper names are typically italicized, and section names would be italicized as well. Check with whatever style you're supposed to be following, but there's a good general guide online here: http://main.uab.edu/show.asp?durki=7713#t
A friend of mine had ambitions like yours. He knew he wanted to make movies from the time he was 8. Before he got into highschool he contacted the closest vocational technical college. They had a course that you could get your highschool education right there on the college and take the videography course at the same time. It wasnt double courses but he did have to spent some extra time at school. Anyways he's in Hollywood now. The first film he worked on was the Coneheads movie (wasnt even in the credits). The last I heard he was an editor on Dragon heart.
If there isn't much information about them, it's a bad sign. Stay away. REAL talent agencies do NOT have websites! If they charge a fee, run out of the door! Talent Agencies are not allowed to charge clients a fee for submitting them on projects. Talent Agencies are regulated by the Department of State where you live i.e, Texas, Californian, etc.). You can Googl: Department of State Talent Agency Regulations (whichever state you're in.) or some wording like that, keep playing around with it. Something will come up. Legitimate talent agencies don't often have a cutsie name.
A lot depends on where you are now My feeling is if your in a large city you can do some of this on the side right now by checking out production houses and seeing what they might have ( the pay will be low to begin with) or casting offices also check into advancing a production site . Be realalistic about your computer skills ( can you run digital format info for editing) There are a lot of jobs in the industry but there are also a lot of boring jobs in the industry so try to keep a income coming infrom your current job ( or transfer if possible to a larger city) and slowly get your ideas in .
It brings in tourists, notably big spending Americans and Japanese, who love to go to the theatre. The revenue taken at the box office, hotel accommodation, restaurants etc, is considerable. It is known as an invisible export. Invisible because there is no tangible item purchased. Instead the tourist has paid money to be entertained, to have a nights sleep, and to be fed. Log in Invisible exports into Google.
I don't know where you're from in Canada, but you have some renowned and worldwide attention coming out of Montreal and that city's events, which have gained tremendous attention on the worldwide front. The Just for Laughs Festival, International Film Festival, and International Jazz Festival are just to name a few. I'm sure that great Canadian cities on the West Coast, such as Calgary, can equal Montreal's initiatives. In the Maritimes, you have amazing Celtic music bands and individual artists like Natalie MacMaster, who has captured the world with her abilty to make the fiddle speak. Also from Nova Scotia, Anne Murray and Gordon Lightfoot beat up the charts in the music world, as did Hank Snow as a country-western star in Nashville. Canada also has the Bare Naked Ladies and Shania Twain, as well as many other artists, such as Montreal's own Celine Dion. The world would be dull without Canada's comedians like Howie Mandel, Dan Aykroyd, John Candy, Jim Carrey, Phil Hartman, Tom Green, Jay Malone, etc. What's not to write about regarding arts and entertainment in Canada? Canadian artists have been blessing the world with tremendous talent since day one (and that's coming from someone from the States). Good luck!
For the 1920's of course the flappers and talking movies. Before that silent movies, Vaudeville. Nightclubs were huge. Radio had drama, serials, comedies. Are you just talking the US? There were alot of arts going on in Europe during that time. Just google 1920s (or whenever) entertainment. Or arts. I am a history teacher and that is what I do. It works better than the history websites which are too specific. If you need photos Yahoo! Images is great.
I think probably James Earl Jones has the best and most universally recognized and ubiquitous voice in entertainment. Or maybe Morgan Freeman.
When you talk about artists are you speaking of painters, musicians, actors? If so then there is many musicians such as David Foster (producer - has done Whitney Houston, Dolly Parton, Natalie Cole for example), Celine Dion, Bryan Adams, Ann Murray, Rush, The Guess Who to name a few. For painters, Emily Carr is one of the top Canadian ones, her work is incredible. She is also a writer. Lucy Maude Montgomery is famous for writing the Anne of Green Gables series all based on her home in Prince Edward Island. Those are the ones I can think of. Arts Entertainment is very strong in Canada, major cities have orchestras or bands or symponthys (sp?). Musicals and Operas are also in many cities including ones like Phantom of the Opera, Cats, Showboat, etc... Then there is the National Ballet of Canada based in Toronto. When it comes to movies shows, many actors and actresses are from Canada including Michael J Fox, Alex Trebak, Peter Jennings, Dan Akroyd to name a few. Many TV shows movies are filmed in locations like Vancouver or Toronto but yet it seems like they are in the US.
I think it's because of the type of music discussed in this area. Most of the questions are related to current/recent pop literature... not the classics. I have found a lot of classical music/music pedagogy questions in the Arts and Humanites, Performing Arts category. It sucks I know, but not everyone has a sophisticated ear such as you and I.
All of these cities are unique in the entertainment and art they are known for. Also, I think that all of these cities are sophisticated in their own way. Sure, no city is perfect, but it's up to the traveler to visit a place and determine if it's a place they love (imperfections and all). With that said, my favorite cities in your list would have to be Atlanta (where I live) NYC, DC, and Boston. I haven’t been to the other cities, but I do plan to in the future!
They're still working to rebuild those audiences; what they need most of all is people going there. Arts and tourism are big. Best of luck!
